SFX HUNT - TAKING RISKS

Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing - Warren Buffet

Petaling Jaya 26 Sep 09: Taking risks is key to achieving success and those who stay in their comfort zone often end up being spectators to those who succeed. So very true. To tell the spectators apart, one just needs to pay attention during a conversation and listen out for the words "If Only".

"If only I had invested in some Maybank shares when it dropped to RM1.50 in 1998, I would be a rich woman now".

"If only I had studied a little harder during the Finals, I wouldn't have been overlooked for that lucrative scholarship".

Many people do not realise that they do take risks every single day of their lives. Driving to work is a risk. The last defender lunging at the raging forward in the six yard box is taking risks. A maintenance operator repairing a broken equipment is taking risks. However, these are all examples of mitigated risks. When one is well trained or when one is given reliable information, the risk of any untoward incident is greatly reduced, hence improving one's chances of achieving success.

During today's SFX Hunt, I had to work extremely hard in order to convince my team mates to risk it all in exchange for the lucrative reward of finshing the hunt in pole position. My obsession to risk everything was largely due to this elusive treasure.

Treasure 3:
Bring me a drink containing the forbidden fruit,

The first Parish of Kuala Kangsar area, will be good,
If Eden was in Japan perhaps this was the type they ate,
Bring me an unopened bottle and let us see your fate

No lah! We still have a lot of time. I am sure we can find it. How can a CoC make this kind of mistake? I can't imagine the Machines will forgo a treasure with so much time still in hand. We may finish outside the top 10 if others find it.

When I first popped the idea (to forgo the treasure) into the open for discussion, these were the initial reactions that I received. I can understand my team mates' conservative stance, for the strategy was anything but conventional. We had an hour and a half in the pocket till the end of the hunt and we were only 10 minutes away from the finishing point with 2 more route questions to go. Still plenty of time to zip in and out of at least a half dozen more stores. However, the hunt had been rather easy until that point. Hence I expected that it would be a breeze too for the other regulars - which meant that time would likely be required to break the impending tie.

The strategy formulated in my head when Ee Wen rushed out from Cold Storage @ Jaya One exclaiming that she had bumped into the Cryptically Challenged team aka the Machines. With all these facts in hand, I did not consider my proposition to be any riskier than driving a car.

1. We ourselves had checked out no less than a dozen stores within and outside the hunting sectors (including Giant and Cold Storage) during the earlier part of the hunt.
2. I had observed other regulars zipping in and out of stores at every available opportunity within the hunting sectors - which means that others are struggling to find it too.
3. The website we checked did say that the product will be released to the market soon.
4. And the one that nailed it for me, the Machines were seen still looking for treasures near the tail end of the hunt - which means that they are probably struggling to find the same treasure, and if we beat them to the finish station, we had a chance of winning the hunt.

In the end, convince my team mates I did and we forwent the search. And when the answers were later revealed, it confirmed my earlier suspicion that we had all been sent on a wild goose chase in search of a non-existent treasure!

But alas, the Machines had pipped us to the finish line.

Oh well! Like they say, No risk No gain.

The process is accomplished with just the click of a button.
Some Local News papers/journals/ tabloids/Magazines focus on
regional happenings and target local audiences/ readers. They also tend to endear themselves to populations in times of severe duress and hardship by well funded relief efforts and other charitable initiatives,
which make them look incredibly social compared to corrupted governments.

However, the English newspapers are much central to urban areas.
But I felt I had something interesting, if not unique, to
say about the Mafia because as a boy I had listened not only to Mafiosi in
my stepfather's kitchen but to first and second generation Sicilians who understood how and why the Mafia had gotten a foothold in this country.

This makes the mixing phase a lot easier, just put in your concrete and water, and off you go by the wheelbarrow load.
Blistering heat and bitter freezing cold can crack the toughest of concrete.
And when we would cut for the plumbing work, I had to patch around that and make it solid.
