MARITIME HUNT - A TALE OF TWO HALVES

KUALA SELANGOR, 23 Oct 2010: The Maritime hunt made a much anticipated return after a 3 year hiatus. This year's quest which took the hunters from Carey Island to Bukit Malawati, Kuala Selangor was divided into 2 halves with Setia Alam being the mid-point of the hunt.

The first leg of the hunt was just how I had remembered past Maritime hunts - thematic and tough! Thematic hunts can be a tad more challenging than standard hunts because a decent general knowledge surrounding the theme is a pre-requisite in order to excel in the hunt.

Q3: Random code insertion will uncover port labourers that are kept here.
Ans: KRS @ KR Sinniah & Son Store

Q11: It gets away somehow with giving access to ships.
Ans: GNG

Thematic hunts also tend to provide cunning setters with an additional ace up their sleeve, giving them an opportunity to employ seemingly thematic words to mislead the hunters.

Q9: Master went away after vehicle is okay?
Ans: Mag1 @ Bengkel Membaiki Kereta Kim Hoe

Q12: Even a hundred splits up to allow the first mate in.
Ans: Level Up

It was a vastly different hunt in the 2nd leg, as though the setter had let go of the gas pedal. The struggles we endured in the 1st leg became a distant memory as we breezed through the questions in the 2nd leg.

Throughout the hunt we were bothered by one treasure. We had an answer that did not quite fit perfectly because we could not account for some of the words used in the riddle. In the end, it was rather disappointing to find out that these words were nothing more than decorative pieces, rather uncharacteristic for this particular setter indeed!

T1: You will find many first voyages in a needful way,
As a seafarer's wish about rain storm to go away,
And is necessary to discover the treasure I say,
An exploit of Switzerland's law will hold sway,
Nothing firm comes in though not in an early way,
A pack of this treasure will surely make my day.
Ans: A pack of M&M's Milk Chocolate
