Here is one place that I will recommend highly if you want truly clear and light soupy meals. The Restoran Tien Kee - Soup & Porridge (will add a picture of shopfront later).
Serving mostly fish (prompret, ikan parang, etc) with noodles in clear broth, they also have other food for those who prefer a little more.
Prices ranges from Rm6.50 to RM31.00 (with abalone) - but most are within the RM8.00 to RM11.00 range - per big bowl of noodles served with taufu, fresh greens (mak choy, bitter gourd), some mushrooms, tomatoes, savoured with unique dried shrimps and preserved vegetables. You will be tempted to finish every drop of the clear and tasty soup.
Choices of noodles include mee suah(my favourite), tong-fung (glass noodles), mee-hoong, yellow noodles and kuey-teow. They also serve steamed rice, yam rice (on certain days) and long bean rice and even porridge. The speciality rice ranges from RM1.80 to RM2.00 a bowl.
You can vary your order to your liking too, down to what you want added or not included ... just ask. Very accommodating.
For those into the meats - they have their signature fritters, hakka dumplings and abacus "discs" (another kind of dumpling that look like abacus beads). They also serve duck meat.
Run by a family of siblings (Raymond, Jacyln and Michael - they speak English too) - they have been receiving good patronage - often crowded by 7:30 p.m. and finished selling most of their popular dishes by 9:00 pm. (though they officially open until 10:00).
I know it is not "proper" to talk about this along with any discussions of food - but I cannot not mention about the impressive level of hygiene at this place - the toilets - exceptionally clean and bright! I am inclined to say - the best I have ever seen in any restaurant of this class (shop-house type).
Cleanliness seems to be the "visionary focus" of the owners.
