DENGKIL NG SEAFOOD - UNDENIABLY GOOD FOOD

One of the reasons I was so looking forward to the Kembara Alam 1Malaysia this weekend, was because the end point in Putrajaya was close in proximity to Dengkil. I have been eyeing the Dengkil (Ng) Seafood Restaurant for a while now, having read about the place many many months back. Some of their signature dishes intrigued me as they rank highly on my list of personal favourites. But since Dengkil is not exactly a stones throw away from PJ, it was hard to motivate myself to drive the distance ..... until TODAY.

I text the rest of the HRU members a day prior and invited them to be my lunch dates. And being fellow gluttons foodies, it did not take much effort to convince them to join me. And so, while waiting for the results on hunt day, we sneaked away in search of good food .........

Their piece de resistance, the Tong Poh Yoke (東坡肉), was very good - one of the best I have had in a long time. It is a drier version of what I am accustomed to. And although the sauce was scarce it was adequate to give the succulent meat a wonderful sweet flavour. Priced at only RM12 it was a steal, really. The fried man tao-s that accompany the dish cost an additional ringgit per piece.

If the Tong Poh Yoke (東坡肉) was good, their Signature Tofu (招牌豆腐) was even better. Its fried appearance was deceiving as the tofu was smooth and silky on the inside. Topped with minced pork and finely chopped szechuan vegetables and lightly drenched in soy sauce, this simple dish was outstanding. Only RM12 an order.

Their 3rd signature dish, the Vietnamese styled Claypot Fresh Water Prawns was very pricey although equally outstanding. Mildly spicy and laced with a tangy sourish taste, this dish goes very well with steamed rice or equally yummy when eaten on its own. However, priced at RM16 per prawn (or RM90 per kilo), this dish is unlikely to make a repeat occurrence the next time I visit.

This restaurant has a very impressive line-up of fishes available on their menu, from the affordable Red Tilapia (at RM2.50 per 100 grams) on one end of the price scale, to the exorbitant Empurau (at RM80 per 100 grams) on the other end. Since we were not confident that the hunt organizers would be picking up the tab today, we decided to leave the princely Empurau for another occassion and ordered instead the Red Tilapia steamed with pickled chinese radish. The fish was fresh, otherwise there was nothing really outstanding about this dish.

hehe, I didn't know the food there was so good. Me and my colleagues go there quite often and we find the food so so only. U should try another shop nearby, just further down the road, Restoran Sinki. The food is even better there :) Try their signature fish dish...

We decided to stick to their signature dishes, which were really good. But I'll take your cue and pay Sinki a visit next time we are in the vicinity. Thanks for the tip.
