OOOOOOOH MAMA!

How do you tell if a restaurant is above average? The adage, follow the crowd, usually holds true 95 percent of the time. Driving around Taman Tun Dr Ismail tonight, the large crowd at Restoran Mama Kitchen instantly caught my attention.

Not quite in the mood for a regular staple of rice and dishes, I decided instead to ask the waiter to recommend their house speciality for noodles. It was quite refreshing to hear Roast Pork noodles and Claypot Loh Shee Fun being recommended instead of the usual Hokkien Mee or Cantonese Fried Hor Fun.

The Roast Pork noodles was good. It is served dry with a generous helping of roast pork stewed in oyster sauce and dark soya sauce, topping the wanton noodles. I also found the Claypot Loh Shee Fun which was fried with minced pork and topped with a raw egg, to be above average too. A less inept cook usually ends up either making this dish too soggy or burning the noodles .

If noodles are not your cup of tea, not to worry. Here they also have a very respectable list of seafood, chicken, pork and other dishes in their menu too.
